Healthy Fried Rice

Alright my friends, in a recent podcast we discussed how high performance athletes can get the nutrition they need through some of the comfort food favourites. So here is how to make a Healthy Fried Rice. Remember as discussed on the podcast episode on Secrets to a Healthy Gut with Dr Will Bulsiewicz plant diversity is the key to a healthy gut microbiome and therefore your overall health. The most important factor is to get a large amount of different types of plants in your meals. To help here this recipes makes it very easy to make that number sky rocket.

How to make an easy fried rice?

This recipe is broken down into some key steps, but the most important one to note is your green paste that you stir throughout. Whilst we have the recipe below, I encourage you guys to be creative with your paste, incorporate herbs and plants that you like. With the inclusion of this all that is left is to mix it through with the rest of the ingredients, that is what makes fried rice so good and you can add other plants throughout.

Recipe: Healthy Green Fried Rice

Serves: 4

Skill Level: Easy

Ingredients: for the paste

2 Tbsp Olive Oil

1 Bunch Mint

1 Bunch Coriander/cilantro fresh

Juice of a lime

Pinch of salt/pepper

1 Onion, sliced

1 knob of Ginger, finely chopped

3 Garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 Chilli, sliced

1 broccoli, chopped

1 cup mushrooms chopped (use your favourite)

2 Cups of cooked brown rice

2 Tbsp Tamari or soy sauce

2 tsp maple syrup

4 Eggs

Method:

  1. In a food processor combine, 1 tbsp of oil, herbs, lime juice, salt and pepper until it forms a paste.
  2. In a pan on medium high heat add remaining oil and caramelise onion, ginger and garlic for 5-7 minutes or until slightly golden. Add in chilli, stir for a minute before continuing with broccoli, mushrooms and rice
  3. Stir through the paste, tamari and maple before setting aside
  4. Fry your eggs and serve on top!
